 When planning your New Zealand holiday please remember that while New Zealand is a relatively small nation, size does not directly relate to the speed or ease of movement.

Allow yourself enough time to experience all that you desire during your Self Drive Holiday. It's true, New Zealand is a small land mass with a small population compared to many other nations, but the islands of New Zealand are narrow and mountainous.

This makes for relatively short journeys but they are often at low speed over many kilometres of winding, undulating roads that are in places literally carved around our lakes and mountains.

Please allow yourself ample time without attempting to sprint from place to place. The nature of many South Island roads is not condusive to such driving.
