We hope the following Driving Tips and New Zealand Road Rules will assist you in understanding the uniqueness of driving in New Zealand.

 Towns and cities within New Zealand may look close to each other on a map however the actual drive may be hundreds of kilometres around lakes and mountains as you follow winding roads up and down through our wonderful hills and mountain ranges crossing many one lane bridges on the journey. Please allow yourself ample time to complete your travel in comfort without long sprints between localities.

While some of the drive guides include 5 to 6 hours of actual driving we do not recommend combining the guides or itineraries to more than this for safe enjoyable self drive holidays. The second major cause of death and injuries on New Zealand roads is speed and fatigue. Slow down and live to tell of your travel when visiting New Zealand.
